Title: How do I make porridge on rice flour?
Post by: Vicku on November 29, 2010, 09:01:33 am
Someone suggested to me to buy rice flour and cook porridge on it for DD2 but I can't find any recipes for how to cook it anywhere. Don't want to just improvise in case it gets too constipating :-\
Can you help?

I have NO idea, but thought I'd give you a little bump.  ;)

Are you trying to make your own rice cereal?  Something like this?:  http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ricebabyfoodrecipes.htm

I took organic brown rice and pulverized it in my blender.  Then I cooked it on the stove/hob with boiling water and made my own rice porridge.  I was too scared to try that boxed mush that they try to tell us to feed our baby's with, gross!

I would make them in little servings and keep in the fridge ready. I also kept a tupperware of the pulverized rice ready too.  I used porridge for dinner with an egg yolk, veggies etc... for breakfast I added fruit purees or stewed apricots or prunes.

So easy and so healthy for baby and no constipation.  I got this recipe and more from the Superbaby Food Diet Book that Tracy Hogg recommends in her book. Love it still.

Thanks both of you :)

I think what I have is organic pulverised rice, sold as rice flour, but it looks white so must be from white rice. Good idea about pulverising it in the blender yourself Ais! Might try that. Can you remember how much water to rice to use? I tried cooking some together with water but it got all lumpy and DD was not impressed :P Great idea too to mix it with different stuff.

Just read through the link M and that seems to be the same as Ais did! And there's a recipe for how much rice to water to use too ;D Seems like brown rice is much better so will pulverise some myself and use that instead. Hope she'll like it!

Let me know how it goes Vick, I've been meaning to do some for F but haven't yet.  :)

I probably just used enough to cover the rice mixture, keeping the kettle handy and added more water as necessary.

Isn't there an Asian recipe called congee?  http://www.homemade-chinese-soups.com/cooking-porridge.html

Perhaps you could make a porridge like that but perhaps change the flavourings?
