Title: New baby coming, can I reuse pacifiers and bottle nipples?
Post by: BrookeSabo on July 01, 2007, 01:43:52 am
I have a 2 yr old and a new baby coming in November. Can I reuse the bottle and bottle nipples from last time and the pacifiers...or do I need to buy new ones. They have been packed away since we stopped using them the first time. Thanks!

I don't know the technical answer to this one but I reused bottles and bottle nipples from Henry to Lily. I didn't reuse pacifiers because Henry still has his.  ;) I just made sure to sterilize the bottles and nipples in boiling water just like I would new ones.

I would use the same ones too,You know where they have been and in sure you will clean them really well.
Good luck with new baby.

I would personally reuse the bottles but buy new nipples and pacifiers.  They should normally be replaced after a few months use anyway (well thats what the instruction leaflets normally say to do).  I would like to use fresh ones for a new baby.

I would think that it would be fine to re-use the nipples on your bottles, but am not sure about the paccifiers, as they do suggest that you throw them away afterr a few months of use.

If you do decide to use the bottles teats, I would check them all over carefully to make sure that there is no sign of wear on them before you decide to use them.  Again, it is also recommended to change the teats every few months.

When our new lo arrives, we have decided to buy all new bottles and teats because the ones we have caused our DS a lot of gas and wind.

HTH's

Ladies,

Nipples and pacifiers should NEVER be reused...the plastic used in manufacturing these items can crack over time (not usually seen with the naked eye) and bacteria can grow in these cracks...it's not a safe practice to reuse them.

This was explained to me by my son's MD...my son developed Thrush and all his nipples and pacifiers had to be thrown out...it made perfect sense-since the plastic is so thin-over time it is also wise to replace them...which is usally not an issue since you tend to move up the stages (flow) every few months.
