11wk old routine
« Reply #15 on: June 17, 2005, 08:22:30 am »
Danielle's been on EASY since a week old and I'm still just figuring things out at 11wks...

Eating: I have just started her on a 3hr feed cycle instead of 2.5hrly - so she gets 5 feeds between 7am-7pm.  I do a dreamfeed at 10pm and she wakes once in the night between 2.30-5.30am - I've had a few issues with her not wanting to eat properly during the day and it affecting the night wake up time, but we're getting back on track now with the 3hrly cycle.

Activity:  In the past week her activity length has gone up to 1.5-1.75hrs

Sleeping: She naps between 45mins - 2hrs.  Often will have a short nap in the morning and then a big one over lunchtime and then two shorter naps in the afternoon

Today's routine was:

7.30am wake and feed (I needed to wake her)
9am nap (45mins)

10.30am feed
11.30am nap (2hrs - I needed to wake her up to keep the number of feeds up)

1.30pm feed and fell back asleep for 1/2 hr
2pm wake and play
3pm nap (30mins)

4.15pm feed
4.45pm nap (30mins)
6pm bedtime routine (she's in the bathroom with me and Nathan while he has a bath etc and she's gets dressed for bed).
6.45pm bedtime feed
7pm bed
10pm DF
4.30-5.30am feed

I find the late afternoon a bit of muddle now she's on 5 feeds a day and I really want her in bed at 7pm yet she won't settle for bed without 1.5hrs of activity - hence the 2 short catnaps in the afternoon.

EASY routine
« Reply #16 on: June 22, 2005, 19:13:46 pm »
I just started the EASY routine about 2 weeks ago. DS is now 8 weeks old. Here is our typical day:

E - 7am
A - 7:30 - until sleepy (about 1 -2 hours)
S - about an hour

E - 10:00am
A - 10:40 - sleepy
S - about an hour

E - 1:00
A - usually short activity time this round
S - about 1.5 hours

E - 4:00
A
S - sometimes doesn't fall asleep, but has quiet time until next feeding

E - 6:30 - I start cluster feed
A - about an hour
S - catnap
  bath time around 8:15

E - 8:30
Bedtime around 9pm

He stirs around 2am, I re-swaddle him and give him his paci and then he is asleep until about 4am to eat and the cycle continues  :)

I have been working on schedule since birth, but for the last few days here is what we have. The variations will be that sometimes he eats at 2.5 hours instead of 3 and sometimes his naps are fitful and he needs alot of resettling and therefore doesn't really get that much sleep.

7:00 E (breastfeed)
7:15 (or so) usually goes back to sleep, sometimes activity. I often take him to dad at this time and he sometimes cuddles him.

10:00 E
10:20 A (this includes wind down)
10:50 S  (including 15- 20 minutes to go to sleep)

1:00  E
1:20  A
1:50  S

4:00  E
4:20  A
4:50  S

6:00 E 1st cluster
6:20 A (bath and bedtime routine)
6:50 S

8:00 E 2nd cluster
8:15-8:20 S

10:30- 11:00 Dream Feed

between 2-3 feed

sometimes 4-5 feed

wake and start over between 6-7

I have found the sleep window is very very important. If I catch it right... he goes w/out any crying (still takes around 20 minutes and I watch the whole time as occasionally he startles himself).  Usually he sleeps until next feed, but if he wakes early I feed no earlier than 2.5 unless he is starving. Sometimes he has increased A time at that feed and sometimes he just starts his nap a little earlier and sleeps a little longer.  I have worried b/c the A time is so short. It is really only about 10- 15 minutes before we start winddown, but it works and keeps him happy. I am hoping as he gets older he will extend it.

Hello, I have a little man named Oliver...fortunately, I had been told to read the baby whisperer long before I was even pregnant so, we have been trying to do the EASY routine since Day 1!  He is a breastfed 6 week old man now who tends to be clockwork in the morning and early afternoon.  I can count on him waking at 7 am, down again at 8:15-8:45 feed again at 10-10:30 and back down again by 11:30-12:00 Feed again at 2pm.  However, after this I never know what he's up to.  Sometimes he wants feeding every 1.5 hours other times like last night, he fed at 5pm...was forced to stay up after bathtime and feed again at 7pm only lasted 10mins and then he was in bed until 10:30 pm....only woke then at 4am and back up at 7 to start again.

Hummm... This is what Harvie is on: (times are all aprox as baby doesn't have internal clock)
Day feeds are 5oz and dream feed is 4oz.

-7am wake and feed
-play till 8 / 8:30 depending on how sleepy he gets.
-sleeps till next feed at 10am

-10am feed
-play till 11:30
-sleep till 1ish

-1pm feed
-play till 2:30
-sleep till 4

-4pm feed
-play (with a wee cat nap round 5:30ish) till next feed at 7 (sometimes we try to eat during the 30 to 40 min mini nap.

-7pm feed / bath or 'top to toe' wash
-7:30 / 8 put to bed

-10pm dream feed (have been puting 1 teaspoon of rice cereal in bottle) and put back to bed and he will sleep till aprox 7 am again.

Sometimes Harv wakes and plays. I generally ignore it and let him go. He will put himself back to sleep but if he doesn't and starts to fuss I go in and re tuck him and put his pacifier back in and he usually goes straight back to sleep.

I'm new to these boards but have been reading the website and have read the books and found them so useful just wished I'd read them before i'd given birth!!

My babe is now 12 weeks and we started on Easy 4 weeks ago, after a fairly rough few days
and a lot of worry about accidental parenting we seem to have cracked it, well at least for now!!

Our routine has been pretty much this for the last two weeks,

E. 6.30/7 bf (takes 10 mins only)
A. Playtime, then bath
S. 8/8.30
(A) 9.15-10 Playtime

E. 9.30/10 bf
A. Playtime
S. 10.30/11

E. 12.30/1 bf
A. Playtime
S. 2/3ish

E. 3.30/4 bf
A. (Slightly grumpy) low key playtime
S. 5-5.45 (catnap in buggy whilst walking dog around the park)
A. 6pm bath
E. 6.30 bf
S. 6.45/7

Df. 11pm bf (takes about 20mins, seems to drain both boobs!)

Then generally sleeps until 6.30/7 occassionally wakes between 4 and 5 if hungry/wet but becomming less and less often.

His first nap is only ever 45 mins and I don't seem to be able to make it longer, he's generally quite jolly when he wakes and he seems to make up the time during the next nap. So i'm not going to push it, it's enough time for a shower!!!

I find that if he doesn't have a catnap at about 5 he becomes very grumpy and is ready for bed by 6!!

Things started to come together when he found his thumb because he can now self soothe and puts himself to sleep, he loves it!! Perhaps too much? there's always something to worry about!!!

Hi there Moms (and Dads),
Thought I'd post my E.A.S.Y. routine too.  AJ's been on E.A.S.Y. - ish (lol) since about 3 weeks.  He's 9 weeks now.  He's been letting me have great sleeps since about his third day home.  He's pretty 'textbook'.  My routine is a combo of E.A.SY. and a routine from another book I've been reading as well. (Breastfeeding) (one feed is expressed milk in a bottle)

E-7:00
A- after feed
S- 9:00 ish (early morning nap 45 min)
Y

E- 10:15 ish
A- after feed
S- 12:15 ish (long afternoon nap 2-2.5 hours)
Y

E- 2:30 ish
A- after feed
S- 4:15 ish (very small evening nap 30 min max.)
Y

E- 5:15 ish - half feed or a bottle of water to tide him over
A- after feed or around 5:45 (bath time and massage), then finish feed
S- 7:00 ish
Y

E- 10:00 ish - DF
A- no activity, he's in dreamland!
S- 10:45 ish
Y- (I go to bed)

He used to wake around 4 for a feed then went back to sleep.  Sometimes, he wakes around 5:30 and doesn't want to go back to sleep.

Sonja
