Do 40-45 minute naps usually mean OT or UT?
« on: July 14, 2009, 17:11:50 pm »
Hi just wondering if 40-45 minute naps and the baby wakes up crying...if it means OT or UT? What about half hour naps? And sometimes the naps are either 30 or 45 min. and the baby wakes up happy?

Hi,
Normally half an hour is OT and 45 mins is UT.
If they wake up crying it is usually OT but then again my DS wakes up crying from most naps and not all are OT.
For us 35/40 mins are OT but I think it varies a little.

For my DS, 30 minute naps are OT, no matter if he wakes happy or crying.  And, 40/45 minute naps are UT, and again no matter if he wakes happy or crying. I found from some careful and sneaky observations that the 40/45 minute wake-ups where he wakes crying are the ones when he woke a few minutes before but laid there silently and then got upset because I didn't magically appear  ::)   Still not sure why the 30 minute OT naps he would sometimes wake happy but they are DEF overtired for my son.

For me, 30minutes naps for my DD is OT and 45 minutes naps are UT.  I did notice that when she wakes up crying, she is OT.

for us 30 min always meant OT
45 min could be either OT or UT...

if you want to post your routine one of us might have some more ideas

I am still working on a routine as I am observing him. I wasn't sure about the naps with the OT and UT and all of your information has helped. It seems like he is all over the place with them. Sometimes he will sleep for 2 hours when overtired in the afternoon...other times he will not. Sometimes he can handle more A time in the morning and sometimes not. I am trying to take notes to develop a routine but with erratic napping, eating and finding it hard to read his cues...it's tough. Once I figure it out, I will post it on the E.A.S.Y. board.

Can 30 minute naps sometimes be UT? I put my LO down (12 weeks) for the first morning nap after 1 hour and ten minutes of A time and was asleep by 1 hr. 15 mark and he woke after 30 min.?? I had to stay with him for about another 20 as he kept waking up every five minutes. I was patting and shushing. Finally after 20 minutes I put his paci back in his mouth and gave up. He has continued to sleep for about fifteen minutes and woke up crying. Can he become dependent on my patting and shushing? It seems like sometimes he needs it longer and sometimes he doesn't need it much at all. It also seems like he can never put himself back to sleep...he always cries and it goes past the mantra cry.
