Routine change required?
« on: October 14, 2009, 18:35:16 PM »
Hello

My DD is 17 months old and has been fully on 1 nap since 11 months.  Her routine is as follows:

Wake   7
Sleep   12/12.30
Wake   2/2.30
Bed for night   7

We always wake her up at 2.30 if she is not up to make sure she goes down at 7 at night.

The last 4 mornings she has woken at 6.45, 6.20, 6.20 and 6am, so she seems to be getting earlier and earlier.  I have still been putting her down for her nap at 12 on these days and down at 7pm still.  In general I have woken her at the 2 hour mark as I am worried her day sleep may be taking away from her night sleep and this is why she has been waking earlier.

She doesn't seem to be teething.

Can someone please take a look at our routine and let me know if it might need tweaking to avoid the EW's?  Also if she is waking earlier should I be putting her down for her nap earlier or should I leave it at 12?  Do you think I should leave her to sleep at her nap time rather than waking her at the 2 hour mark?

Thank you again.

Hi there-
Your routine seems pretty good to me-
If she wakes earlier, I definitely would move the nap earlier too.
maybe try letting her sleep a little longer at nap time and see if it makes a difference and helps to rid her of excess OT to help get her back on track!
Good luck!

Hello again

Well things got better for a couple of days but then started to regress again, and she has been waking between 6am and 6.15am.  She woke at 5.45am this morning - grrrr.  We leave her and she is happy until close to 7am before getting her up.

We have been putting her down earlier around 11.30am (which is a 5 hour 15min  to 5 1/2 hour morning A time when she wakes at 6 or 6.15) for her naps and letting her sleep which she usually does for around 2 to 2/1/2 hours, then down at 7pm for the night.  We don't usually hear a peep from her at nap time and night time.

Does this look ok in terms of A times, nap times etc following an early morning wake up?  I did wonder whether this is a developmental phase, she is not walking yet but the over the last week or so she has been taking our hands (finally) and walking, walking, walking with us everywhere and for ages.  I know that at the end of the day she is getting tired.   Yesterday she had a huge day walking with us in the sunshine.  I wonder whether we should be putting her down earlier, but am worried she might wake even earlier?

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I would stick with the A times for a few more days.  Developmental leaps always seem to coincide with poor sleep for a bit.  IF she is happy being awake in the crib in the morning, then let her be.  Hopefully she will just fall back to sleep.
