Is it time to wean LO from paci?
« on: August 22, 2011, 02:01:57 AM »
My LO is 17 weeks and needs her paci in order to sleep (both naps and at night time) unless she's travelling in her car seat. She used to need it a lot during the day too, but that was before I had her on a routine. I have tried to limit her paci to her crib, but now that I'm transitioning her to the 4 hr EASY, I find myself using it more during activity time to help her stay calm as well as in the evening before her bedtime feeding as she's usually OT and cranky. She has recently started pulling the 30 minute naps on me, after being a great 1.5/2 hr napper. She will wake up, drop her paci, and start playing in her crib. I do replug her when she wakes up during the night (usually only once or twice) as well as sometimes when she wakes up early around 6am to try to extend her asleep time to 7am.

So, a few questions:

1) I don't really have any reason to wean her from paci other than the fact that I don't like the look of a paci in her mouth and I'm somewhat afraid that the longer she has it the harder it will be to wean her. Is this true? What is the best time to wean from paci?
2) Any tips on weaning paci from her activity time and how to keep her up without fussing?

I do find it easier the younger they are to wean.  I weaned both my boys at 4 mo, but they were waking every 45min during the night to be replugged.  I think it gets harder to wean as they get closer to 1.  If you want to wean it now then give it a shot.

I used to take my kids outside when they were getting really fussy and I was trying to extend their A time, it worked really well for them.
