Breastfeeding while teething
« on: September 06, 2011, 00:26:26 AM »
Hope im in the right place, feel free to move.

Basically Z's top teeth are bulging and about to cut. I am assuming (but unsure) that this is the reason behind his latching difficulties. (We never had this with the bottom teeth)

He is feeding, then the suction is coming off and he is dribbling a bit of milk, he pops himself back on no problem, but I can hear him making almost slurpy noises and opens his mouth then relatches and wanted to see if anyone else experience this with teething, or if maybe it is unusual and not teething related at all!!! It is not hurting me at all, and he is just taking longer to feed really and making a mess ::)

It does sound like it's the teething... Especially because your LO is 10months and never done that before.
Found this link on kellymom with a few suggestions on how to deal with it, maybe you could try some and see if it improves, it'll at least help you figure out if it is the teething.

Thanks Tay. About an hour ago one of the bulging top teeth has cut and he has crashed out in his cot (well actually on the boob but its the only way to settle him when cutting) I am now 95% sure it is the teething. Ill have a look at the link though thank you! :)

I had similar thing with my LO when her top teeth came through, having had no trouble with the bottom ones.  She sorted herself out once they'd cut in a few days though.
