Seventh Anniversary of Tracy's Passing
« on: November 24, 2011, 23:57:25 pm »
Tracy Hogg, RNMH “The Baby Whisperer"
Born and raised in the north of England, Tracy worked in several reknowned hospitals including St. Catherine's Hospital for the Mentally Handicapped, where she first discovered her gift for understanding children's cries, gestures, body language, and other nonverbal cues -a talent she would later apply to babies. When she emigrated to the United States in 1992, Tracy began to work exclusively with parents and their new babies, helping them make the transition from delivery room to first diapers and eventually into toddlerhood.

In 2001 Tracy, working with her co-author, award-winning journalist Melinda Blau, published her first book, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How To Calm, Connect, and Communicate With Your Baby, which instantly became a New York Times bestseller. Just one year later, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer for Toddlers was published and became a national bestseller as well.
In June 2002 Tracy teamed up with Discovery Health in Great Britain to produce a fifteen-part television series entitled The Baby Whisperer. Each episode demonstrates not only Tracy's incredible problem-solving skills, but also her compassion for children and parents.
In 2004, even as she was battling a life-threatening disease, Tracy and her co-author collaborated on The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems. Because Tracy knew that this might be her last book, she was determined to cover every conceivable problem so that even if she couldn't help parents personally, her book would.

Sadly, Tracy lost her battle to melanoma on November 25, 2004. Seven years later her legacy lives on in her books, her tapes, her television programmes, and, mostly, the spirit of this website. The Babywhisper website realized one of Tracy's greatest dreams: to create a place where thousands of devoted parents can come to share their experiences and to support one another. What she possibly didn't imagine, though, was that this virtual community would also make sure that her wit and wisdom could never die.

We hope that you will join us in paying tribute to Tracy on this thread. The thread will remain here in this board as a lasting tribute on this special day.

You might also want to light a candle in memory here:

Tracy, thank you for the tools I needed in order to listen to and mother two completely different type of children.  I am so glad to see your legacy live on in these boards, and am thankful that so many parents have been able to gain valuable parenting knowledge here.

Dear Tracy,
I found your book at a time when I was completely overwhelmed and it changed so many things about how I raise my children. It empowered me to take control and for that I am forever grateful. I have turned to you time and time again and your wisdom always astounds me. I love your humour in the book and it makes me smile. You have a wonderful gift and have changed so many people's lives. I'm not sure if you are religious but God bless you and may you rest in peace.

I knew what kind of a parent I wanted to be but didn't know how. I was sure that when my baby is born it will all come natural and I will have all the answers. Reality was far from that and I was lucky to have found your book when Alon was just a few days old. You had the answers for me, the how and when, and I truly believe I couldn't have done it without you. I'd be a total different parent, probably an OT one with an UT baby to look after. You were a gift to this world and taught us all that there is a way to listen and meet the needs of our children. Thank you for that.

Thank you Tracy for helping me make sense of this rollercoaster called parenthood! Your books and this site have given me the tools to gently manage any challenge we've faced so far, and the insight to better understand my children. I am absolutely positive we would not have the happy, well rested, well behaved children we are so lucky to have, without BW.

Taken from this world too soon. Rest in peace. xxx

Tracy, your wisdom and insight have helped countless families, and in that way, you will never really leave us.  I always knew the kind of Mom I wanted to be, but your books gave me a roadmap...your every sentence resonated in me.  I give your book to every new Mom in my life, and am proud and honored to do so.

You will live forever in the spirit of the millions of children that have been "whispered" to.

I thank you, and my daughter thanks you.     :-*

Thank you Tracy for teaching us how to listen to, respect and understand our babies and children. I am thankful every day that I found you and your teachings, and because of them along with your tools I have been able to be the mother I am. I now know to trust my instincts and be confident in the way I parent. For that I am forever grateful. If it was not for you, we would not have this wonderful resource to share and learn from each other as BWing mums.

Thank you Tracy for giving us tools that allow our families to function. Thank you for giving us a middle ground and for inspiring so many parents that this fantastic website still thrives so many years after your passing.

Thank you for giving me hope, when I first read your book, that there was a way to help my child sleep that didn't have to break my heart.

Thank you Tracy, to have given us your inspiration and knowledge to listen, understand and grow our little ones, while we try to prepare them and to give them the tools to make their life the best we can. And thank you to have saved me from one of the most though period of my life, when I found the first weeks of my baby the most overwhelming of my entire life, and I was really not prepared for that. You gave me the hope that I could put some order in my life as a new mum and start to take things in my hands instead of living in the total chaos of early days. Your books and this site are still the most important references for me to decide how to handle the challenges that I encounter in motherhood.

Thank you for giving me the skills, patience, confidence and tenacity to love and nurture my baby boy - even through some incredibly tough times - by believing in a way to understand him properly. I couldn't have done it without you. So many times I have wished you could be here to help us, but what an incredible legacy and following you have. This site is testament to that. Tracy I first saw your TV show and loved how you understood and connected with babies and parents alike. I read your book when I was pregnant first time and vowed to follow your advice.

I have got lost a number of times on my ventures through parenthood and wished I could ask for your help. But you left a legacy of like minded parents around the planet, through which you live on and are loved.

I have forged new friendships thanks to you.

You are an icon to parents.

Thank you. xxx

Tracy,
Thank you for leaving your wisdom for us in the books you wrote.  Thank you for starting the forums so long ago.
Without these forums, I do not know where my little DS2 would be as it was your words from BWSAYP that clued me into him probably having reflux.
I thank you for teaching me about night terrors so I could walk my DS1 through those dark nights as he processed the issues of DS2's reflux.

But mostly I thank you for giving me functional tools that I can use on a daily basis with my children (and with others in my life) to find a middle ground of respect, of forethought and starting as I mean to go on, so that I can parent in a way that my children are left feeling empowered and loved.

DH & I thank you often for your gifts and your generosity.
Raising my cuppa to you luv
Rest in peace dear lady.

Just wanted to say thank you. I am a mom of 2 under 2 years and have been reading and trying to follow the BW Solves all Your Problems. I just checked out the forum today to get help with my 4mo and had no idea Tracy was no longer with us. I send my gratitude to her family. You all should be so proud as she was quite obviously an amazing woman who continues to make a difference in many people's lives.
Best wishes.

You have been my best friend through the tough initial weeks and months of becoming a mother and my little boy is much happier for that.  I can't thank you enough and now buy your book for all friends and relatives the minute they announce their pregnancy - your success lives on xx

Wow! I am currently reading her third book and didn't know she had passed away.  I was so scared to be a mother! Reading her book taught me to enjoy motherhood.  Her second book "toddler's whisperer" has saved me many times...it keeps me away from dramatic tantrums and makes my life and daughter's so much easier.  Thank you, Tracy, wherever you are.
