Should I just leave him?
« on: May 04, 2012, 14:01:46 pm »
So I put DS to bed around an hour ago after e was showing tired signs, I never usually go back and check on him but today I did, he's just lying awake in his cot, not sleeping but not crying or cooing or anything, totally silent!

Should I just leave him as he obviously isn't distressed or unhappy and is still resting, so to speak?

FYI he is almost 12weeks and had been up for 1hr 10 before I did wind down and bed.

If he's not crying or upset I'd probably leave him. He might fall asleep on his own again. Maybe he was asleep and woke up when you came in?
DS grumpy since 2011
DD textbook since 2014

My ds2 used to do this but at 3wo and only at BT. I actually started doing shh pat instead of just leaving him and he went to sleep much quicker. If I left him and he dropped off after an hour he got OT often. We were only just starting off with independent sleep though and I think he needed some help switching off.
If your lo is normally an inde sleeper or this is just a one off I would probably leave him. But if it becomes a regular occurrence that he is taking an hour to fall asleep and he starts showing signs of OT then I would be tempted to give him a little assistance. You can always scale back again quickly once he starts dropping off sooner. If he sleeps fine otherwise then you are probably OK to leave him to it.
