What time do you make BT when LO skips their nap?
« on: July 14, 2012, 14:16:25 PM »
DD is 3 years old. She still needs a good 2-3 hour nap during the day  :o

Today she will have to skip it because we have friends coming over with their LO's and there's no way she'll want to go to sleep, which is ok. Usually when that happens I try to make BT a bit earlier (7-ish instead of 7:45) but she's always grumpy for 2 days after. Tonight I'd like to make BT even earlier but I wonder how early would work. Any experience? I thought of maybe 6-ish, would that be too early?

My dd2 is just coming up to 4 and has started to drop her nap and on no-nap days we put her to bed at 6.15 and wake her at 7am. On days when she does nap she goes to bed about 6.45 as she shares a room with her big sister who needs to go to bed at that time, but we don't expect her to go to sleep before about 7.45.

We've gone as early as 6pm and normal bedtime is 7/7:30.

some of us have tried BT around 5-5:30 for no nap days and it works!  imagine she is going on 10 h straight probably with extra activities during those hours.  she would be exhausted.

Oh, and back in the days when skipping a nap was unusual we would put her down at 5/5.30 - it definitely works if they need their sleep.

Usually about 1 hour early - but mine are low sleep needs - so kind of different I think  ;).

i forgot to mention that we only started doing no nap when DS was 3y3m and was only taking 45mins nap.  He didn't usually tack before then but was good with 5:30 ebt as opposed to 7-7:30 normal bt.  HTH

Thanks everyone :)

It was a tiring day for her, and when our visitors left at 5:15, she was almost falling asleep on the couch. We hurried through dinner and a bath and she was in bed by 6:40. Not as early as I would've liked, but still not too bad. I hope she gets a good rest!

You're all hilarious  :P. She sleeps more now than she did at a 3 or 6 month old  ::). We struggled with 45 minute naps for a long, long time. She took slightly longer naps when she got on one nap a day but still not THAT long. I'd say she started getting regularly 2-3h maybe a year and a half ago or so, when she started walking instead of being in the stroller - it's wearing her out ;) I know it doesn't work for all kiddos but it works for us.  If we walk to the park, play there for a while, then walk back, we're almost guaranteed a 3-hr nap.

But seriously I did have a post on the health board because she IS getting lots of sleep, and seems tired a lot of time despite all the sleep she's getting

To be fair though you need that long nap from her given your DS likes being a pickle ;) :-*
