If she was standing I always laid her back down, give blankie, lovey and pacifier say sleep phrase and walk out.  If I didn't lay her down there is no telling how long she would stand there for.

If LO can lie down on their own then you don't need to PD but for some LOs it works better. We found the less interaction the better. PD etc created OS when Z was OT (this was when GW stopped waking too ) only times we didn't do WI/WO and did PD or cuddle was when Z was wound up.

I did PD as well, and found that as he got more tired, he'd go from standing up again to just sitting up, so it got easier to lay him down each time  :)

We have to use it when Z has recover from an illness the odd time or developmental blip where he won't settle... That's it now really. They learn fast Katy. Once they know too it's so much easier when you do do it, its like uh oh they mean business!

Sorry to hijak the thread Katy but I have one more question if you don't mind! What if ds is laying there crying and not standing?  Do I go in and just say our sleepy phrase and WO?!?!?  Is it ok to say shh for a second and rub his back for a couple seconds or should I just use my voice and not touch?

Technically you WI say phrase, WO - if LO is trying to settle rather than crying properly I would listen before racing back in too. But this doesn't work for all and some LOs respond better with a back rub, touching, shhh, or having their lovey given back if they are throwing it around the cot in anger (this was my child ::) )

Ideally min interaction you think is required is best IMO, otherwise you can get caught in there.

I think you can't really. Make sure he is tired enough for bed. Move as many toys as possible out of the bedroom, then leave him to it (lights out of course). WIWO is like PUPD, you can't really do it if they're not upset!

Its about 45 mins after his nap time and should be tired enough.

I think I would need to take every single last toy out he is a monkey! In the end we just waited outside and if we heard him playing we just kept on telling him it was time to go to sleep. It took 45 mins, im dreading b/time!
