How to move to feeding every 4hrs
« on: August 13, 2012, 14:03:29 pm »
Hi,

My DS is 18 weeks tomorrow and he is still in a 3hrs EASY, I want to move to the 4hrs as he is not very interested in having a feed every 3 hrs anymore. His feed schedule is:

6.30am - 6oz
10 am - 6oz
1pm - 6oz
4 - 4.30pm -3 oz
7 - 7.15 pm - 6oz
11pm only takes 2 oz

He doesn't take anymore milk until the next day, he wakes up at 5am but he is not interested in feeding at that time.
My worry is that I cannot add more oz during the day to the morning feeds so I can cut the 4pm feed as he wont take more than 6 oz (even with that sometimes he refuses)

How I can do this without reducing his oz intake during the day?

Thanks

D

When you move to a longer EASY you aren't cutting a bottle so much as the increased spacing will encourage them to take more at a feed. I would try a 3.5 hour EASY for a few days to let him adjust and see how he goes.

When you feed him is he draining the 6oz bottles? What you may find for the first day is that he will only take 6oz, but put another oz in the bottle and he should start to take that in all bottles when you have that 3.5 hour gap. When he is draining those bottles you need to add another oz.

HTH!
