Anyone retinroduced egg after an allergy?
« on: January 05, 2014, 22:30:19 pm »
Olly has got an egg allergy but luckily it has been decreasing (through skin prick tests).

A couple of weeks ago nursery gave him 2 slices of bread with egg in. He was itchy and came up with eczema but no vomting or hives!! A result! Still an allergy but at least not a nasty one.

I am wondering though if egg allergies are like dairy ones where there can be different reactions to processed, cooked, raw etc?

I imagine this kind of egg would be considered processed if it is on a scale like this.

Any ideas?

I think if it is an allergy vs intolerance there are no degrees really...a true milk allergy is going to elicit a rxn regardless of what the milk is iykwim unlike mpi where there may be some tolerance. Plus I would be wary as no two rxns are alike...does sound promising though! We got egg back earlier this year, baking gf is so much easier.

My friends ds was allergic to egg as a baby/ toddler- it had gone enough to start to reintroduce by the time he was 5. He could tolerate cakes well but it was a while still before he was ok with ice cream (and there was a memorable carbonara vomiting incident) so perhaps yes there are varying degrees of 'processed'
Can the hospital give you some advice? xx

My son is now able to have well baked egg but still reacts to a hard boiled egg. His specialist does think that this could help him outgrow his egg allergy completely.

James has atopic eczema, multiple food allergies, asthma and late talker

I will bring it up with the hospital next time he goes in for a skin prick test. His last one wasn't that long ago and he is getting down to the stage where they would re-introduce with the egg but wasn't close enough.

Fingers crossed next time then we might be able to officially trial it!

I know this conversation is quite old now but my question is on the same topic so thought I'd continue it...
My dd is 6 months old and came out in a scary (to me!) episode of hives and vomited a few hours later after having a hard boiled egg for the first time. I am wondering when it is advised I try to introduce her to egg again?

Has she other allergies do you know? That is exactly the reaction Olly had to egg so could well be an allergy. If that is the case I might get to the doctors and get referred. Not sure they can do much but they could test when she is a bit older.

Thanks *buntybear* she had a similar reaction (without the vomit) to a banana so we didn't give her bananas for about a week and when she next had one she was fine and loves them. She had a little reaction to kiwi fruit, but I've since heard they can cause allergies in young babies? Neither my husband nor I, nor our families have allergies so I wonder if I'm introducing foods too quickly?

She also has some excess and had some silent reflux which only necessitated a very small dose of gaviscon as she was only symptomatic at night and fine in the day. Do you think all three might be connected? (She has red hair and sensitive skin and I have some exec a and in my family so probably genetic rather than anything else?)

It is the hives that worry me as they are an allergic reaction - I thought - the vomiting could just be her little tummy is not ready for it yet? What age did you start weaning? Of course there are various theories on when to wean...

Started introducing tastes only at about 5 and 3/4 months as she was getting really upset when she saw us eat! She has a great appetite but must be a bit sensitive so will proceed slowly and cautiously. She dose sometime rub her eyes at lunch time, so it was interesting to read in the above posts that that could be a sign of a little allergy too, but on the other hand she also falls asleep nearly as soon as I take her out of the high chair after lunch, so she could be tired too!

(In my last post it should have read 'she has a little excema' not 'a little excess'!
