Just introduced solids, milk intake affected...
« on: May 24, 2015, 16:44:54 pm »
Hello,

So DD who is 5.5 months now started on solids 6days back. She is taking about 3/4 tsp of mashed banana. However, should that affect her formula intake...She is exclusively formula fed. Before starting on solids she was having on an average 27-30 oz in 24 hours but it is almost 20-23 oz.

Also pls suggest what is the best time of the day to give solid as she has just started and taking only once. Her first feed is usually at 6 30 am - 7 am which is 4-5 oz and then solid is at 8.30 am.

Thanks,
Ekta

Hi
I wouldn't have expected the milk to drop significantly with such a small amount of solids.
Could it possibly be that she had a growth spurt and was taking much more milk and has now returned to a lower, stable, amount?
You could hold off from solids for a few days to see if her milk goes up again, missing solids out at this age is fine, there's no hurry.

Looks like you are offering at a good time, about an hour after milk feed. Morning is a good time too as it gives the rest of the day to see any reaction.  Maybe move from 8.30 to 8.00 so there is an additional 30 mins for her appetite to build up in readiness for her next milk feed, it may make no difference but may be worth the experiment.
