20 mo old long NW
« on: February 07, 2017, 11:26:16 am »
I accidentally removed my last post 😕

Anyways, wondering about an EASY for a 20 month old. DS has been teething canines for what feels like forever. Finally they are all poking through and slowly coming in. One is newly poked through and might be causing our present issues. He also is on recovery from a heavy bout of illness last week or so. We have been doing this roughly but with illness I followed very loosely.

WU 7:30 am
S 1/1:15 pm (1.75 give or take 15)
BT usually almost 5.75 A

The last few nights been having erraticNW and tonight a 2 hour doozy. Today went like this:

WU 7:30 am
S 1:15-3 pm
BT 8:45 pm

NW 12:10; 1:45; 4-6 am 😳

Last two nights have been tossing and turning a lot in and out of sleep with odd NW where he doesn't cry unless you try to get him back to sleep.

Saturday:

WU 7:54 am
S 1:30- 3:45 pm (A 5:36; fell asleep so quickly after wind down)
BT 9:26 pm (A 5:41; drifted within 5)

NW 12:35; 3:50; 5:45; 7:15

Sunday:

WU 7:58 am
S 1:27-2:55 pm (A 5:29; car)
BT 8:41 pm (A 5:46; took more than 15 minutes)

NW 12:45; 2 am; 5; 6:50 am

Not sure if it's time for a tweak or just teeth finishing up. Thank you!

Hiya, I would think with recent illness and teeth in the mix that could well explain things, and I'd be tempted to stick with usual routine until both of those things have passed.  If you are still getting NWs when he is better I wonder whether you might do better with a set BT, rather than a set A time post nap?  It's always worked better for mine that way -  by making bedtime later when he naps longer you are kind of taking away the opportunity for catching up from him as any extra sleep he has taken at naptime (bear in mind sleep needs will vary a bit day to day) is taken a way from the start of his night.  How about an 8.30pm set bedtime and see how it goes?

Thank you Jessmum.

I can definitely give it a go. I think I may shave off 15 minutes before bedtime bc he tossed and turned a lot last night and gave me a EMW after a 1.75 nap and a 5.75 A to bed whereas the night before he slept through with slightly less A (5.5 rather than 5.75 after a 2 hour nap). So maybe he's slightly OT before bed.

I'm going to stick to (hopefully haha):

WU 7:15/7:30 am
S 1/1:15-3 pm
BT 8:30 pm

A slight tweak to see and then ride it out until as you said his teeth are fully out and his cold is completely gone. I want to set the bedtime at 8:30 ideally. So is it that no matter how long he naps even if it's longer, stick to BT?

Yup that's the idea.  You let him just sleep for nap, and keep BT the same regardless.  The only time you start changing things is if you start seeing a consistent pattern of him being harder to settle for bed after longer naps - at which point you may cap his nap, e.g. wake him at 2h if he hasn't woken naturally x

I think at this age you need to stick any changes out for a good week at the minimum, preferably two before reassessing x

Great! I'll give the set BT a try. In terms of nap is going by A time ok? What I have been doing is A time of 5.5-5.75 (which is usually 1 pm give or take 15 minutes) or no earlier than 12:30 if he has an EMW.

If it's working then I would think it's fine - mine have both had set nap times (give or take) on one nap as it just makes the day predictable but if A times isn't causing any issues then stick with it x

Lol I'm not sure if they are. I mean in general we stick really close to the 1 pm nap time.

Today went something like:
WU 7:30 am
S 1-2:35ish pm
BT 8:30 pm (took almost a half hour which is long for him bc usually it's around 10 minutes)

Not sure what that's about. He was in a good mood during the bedtime routine 🤔🤔

This is Day 4 of EW? I'm doing set 8:30 pm BT which averages out to 5.5-5.75 A after a 1.5-1.75 nap. He's only sleeping around 9 hours including 3 NW a night. Hes basically waking every 2-3 hours from the point of BT. He's clearly tired but fights going back to sleep. To the point of closing his eyes super tight then reopening. Is there some sort of developmental leap around 20 montgs? It's like this week he decided he's not going to sleep.

We did move this week and his two last canines are growing in (they have broken through already). I give him a dose before bed. In the daytime he's in a general good mood, very active and joyful with some tantrums but nothing crazy. He does get fussy in the evening and yawns a lot when 7-7:30 rolls around.

Not sure what to do 🤔

Put him to bed for the night when he's tired at 7/7.30?  It sounds like 8.30pm is too late for him right now....what do you think?

Ok I can try that since he's up at 6:30 smh

My nanny couldn't get him down until 1:30  :o

He slept for 2 hours and unfortunately I tried for 8 pm since I got home from work late. He fought sleep for a half hour ugh. That's a 14 hour day. It's not looking too promising.

He had 3 NW; woke at almost 6 and tossed and turned a bit then slept until 7:15. Nanny said he didn't nap until 1:30 and slept until 3:30 pm. I tried sticking to 8:30 BT and he fought sleep for a half hour drifting off at 8:50 pm. Then gives me 2 NW and a EW of 6:45!

I doubt he was OT already after a two hour nap right? I didn't put him down earlier bc I thought waking up at3:30 after a 2 hour nap would mean he would need a 13 hour day so BT 8:30.

I don't know why he keeps giving me these crazy nights grrrrrrrrr
