marking a thread unread
« on: February 19, 2017, 09:12:42 am »
I've always thought if I read a thread (that I had posted on), then mark it unread, that it will show up on my "new replies to your posts" list but I just saw a thread where I did this, it was still marked unread but it wasn't showing on my "new replies to your posts" lists.
Is this normal?
Is it a glitch? A one-off?

I'm a bit worried now that I have been missing threads where I intended to go back but maybe haven't as they didn't show on my "new replies" list.

It will only show up in your "new replies to your posts" list if someone else has posted to it after you marked it unread.

Have I understood you correctly?   :-\

Will it Jaime? That's not how it works for me. It goes back to my list if it was there originally. It even saves my place for when I click on the little orange new button at where it was originally.

This is what I expect and what has happened with most (not sure what percentage now) of the threads I've marked...I see it right away back on my list.  But with this other thread recently I marked it but it disappeared off my list. I only saw it again when browsing and checked my list again and not there.
I'm really confused.
I hope I have not missed important threads I was supporting for instance.  I would feel terrible if I just abandoned a thread mid way through.

Mine go back to my "new replies" list if I mark them unread regardless of whether anyone new has posted. If it is a thread I am following and haven't posted on, when I mark unread it goes back to the "show unread posts since last visit" list.

And I just did so with this thread and it showed up in my unread replies list.

Ah, I misread the OP.... I thought you were marking it "read" and wanting it to show up in your list.   :-[

Yes, if you are marking it "unread", it absolutely should stay on the list, and remember where you were at the time.  Hopefully what happened was a one-off.  With a database this big, I guess a glitch every so often might happen, although it's certainly annoying and I wish there were never glitches.

OK thanks. I will continue to expect it to work correctly.
