waking from leaky nappies
« on: September 24, 2005, 23:59:11 PM »
Hello,

My 13mths old ds is waking up early from leaky nappies every 2nd - 3rd night, ive tried different brands, different sizes, making them tighter/looser.....

The only thing that is left to change is to decrease his bedtime bottle, which im not really happy about doing as he is just taking the min. milk requirement.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?  I was thinking of trying swimming nappies but they are quite expensive here.

Thanks

Hey...I have the exact same problem.... and last night, I think I found a solution...at least it worked last night.  I put on his regular diaper and then on top of that one of those pull-up diapers that older kids use when they're starting to get potty-trained.  Since the pull-up is for bigger kids, it's kind of loose, but it seems to do the trick as far as holding it all in until the morning.... give it a try...what do u have to lose?!
I don't recommend swimming diapers...in my experience they are not at all absorbent...if u think about it, that's exactly what's needed of them in order for them to be useful inside the pool...so don't even spend the money...been there, done that..no good!!
Good luck!

We use a diaper doubler every night in Henry's diaper. I got them online - the brand is Tushies and they're called diaper mates. I'm in the US - don't know where you can get them by you but it's worth a look. They work very well - have only had a few leaks since we started using them.

Huggies makes a Huggies Overnites diapers that we often use at nighttime for our dd. See if you have that brand; they're a little more expensive, but not too bad.

Hi there, we have been through this with dd (14 months) as she is a very heavy overnight wetter. I have two solutions that have solved the problem for us....

1. We used womens incontinence pads inside her nightime nappy (we used 'tena' mini plus)

2. As a cheaper option (the packets of pads were really adding up in cost) we now use 'doublers' which can be washed/dried/ reused.  We got them from a NZ company called SNAZZIPANTS but I think most cloth nappy companies sell them these days...

Good luck!

PS: You might need to find by trial and error the best position in the nappy for whatever you use. We have to postiton her doubler as far back in her disposable as we can get it, but when we used the pads we needed them to be more towards the front. HTH.

Ok - my suggestion was to do what we occasionally feel the need to do.

I check on DD each night just as we are about to go to bed and I always check on the squishability of her nappy.  These days it's hardly anything, but when she was a few months younger - if it were squishy enough that I thought it wouldn't hold till morning I would change it there and then.

Get the new nappy opened out ready, no cold wipes or anything, just whip out the wet one and put the dry one on super fast.  You could try and leave PJ bottoms off to help minimise distrubing your LO

We have always used Huggies Overnights with no problems.  If he did start leaking out, we'd go to the next size up.

This kid's diaper is soooo droopy in the morning, it looks like he has a basketball between his legs, but he doesn't leak!

hello,

Thank you all for your responses,,

its difficult as we dont have the same brands here    i use huggies but we dont have huggies overnites,,i tried before the extra nappy and it seem to make ds more uncomfortable,,

Last 2 nites i went up 2 sizes in huggies and it seems to have worked so far,,,i figured that since he always leaked from the sided he needs the waistband to be bigger,,,,im hoping for a straight dry week

Thanks again

We use the diaper doublers also.  Just like a big maxi pad, but with no backing.  They work great!
