Is an infant seat a prop?
« on: October 10, 2005, 14:12:01 PM »
Hi!  Our little 4-week-old girl has difficulty going to sleep lying flat on her back, but when we put her infant seat in the crib and put her in it, she is out like a light.  She spits up an awful lot, especially when she is on her back, and I suspect that the angle of the chair is helping her not to upset herself by spitting-up so much.  We do not use the "vibrate" function on the chair, and it does bounce a little if she kicks, but she is asleep so fast in the chair that I do not think the bouncing is the issue.

Any thoughts?  Suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't think anything really can be a "prop" at that age. However, continued use could turn it into one. Does she have reflux? Have you tried raising the crib mattress by putting pillows underneath it, ro make it at an angle.

Just some thoughts. I'm sure someone else might be able to give you some more insight.

Hi there - It may be worth getting DD check out for reflux (take a look at the symptoms on the sticky on the reflux board) Mads had the same symptoms and was diagnosed with reflux at about 4 weeks. We elevated he cot to aid her digestion and she was put on infant gaviscon and she was heaps better.

In my opinion, I think it is good to start as you mean to go on, so getting DD to sleep in her crib now, by making it feel more like her seat by elevating it and perhaps swaddling her, will mean that you don't ave to transition her later on when she is more used to sleeping in her chair.

HTH!
