Paci weaning for a two year old???
« on: November 16, 2006, 20:48:09 PM »
I am pregnant with number two and am due in February.  We have to move my just turned two year old to the upstairs and into a new big boy bed...and I think we should wean or cold turkey from the paci before his sister arrives.  I am just curious in what order to do these things.  He usually only has the paci for nap, nighttime slumber, and diaper changes unless he seems very emotional and then my husband will rock him with it until he calms down.  He knows to hand it to us at that point.  I was thinking of cold turkeying it while I have 4 days off at Thanksgiving next week.  Then I thought we could start having him nap in the big boy bed upstairs the following week and move upstairs after that.  Any advice?  Am I wishful thinking?  Should I do one of the other steps like naps with the paci in the big boy bed first before weaning it?  HELP!!

I saw your other post in toddler sleep...you might want to prioritize. A new room, ditching the paci, and a new sib too close together might be too much. When I was still pg, our priorities were big boy bed, potty train, and ditch paci. We never made it to getting rid of the paci. ::) You might want to let him keep it until he's in the new room and back to normal, especially since it sounds like it's a comfort item and might help with the transition.

I would let him still have the paci whilst you are transitioning him to a big boy bed .The paci is his comforter and it will help the transition go smoothly. We had no problems with moving to big boy bed but we did it at 15 months .Ryan still has his paci for sleep time only , it helps with his reflux and i am in no rush to get rid .
